How to Use a Sit Stand Desk
It’s a sit-stand desk – but do you sit? Do you stand? Do you do both? This blog will discuss a few of the ways people use their desk. Keep in mind that the purpose of a sit-stand desk is to provide options for changing posture throughout the day. It’s not recommended that anyone stand at their height adjustable desk for 8 hours straight. The varying options for how a standing desk can be used include the following:
Sitting – Traditional Height
A sit stand desk can be used in the same manner as a traditional office desk when in the lowered position. It has one big advantage however, in that the height can be adjusted slightly so someone tall, short or in a wheelchair can have the worksurface at precisely the most comfortable height for them.
Sitting – Stool Height
One of the most popular combinations used by people with a sit-stand desk is with the desk set to a stool height and a drafting style stool used for intermittent seating. This approach allows the employee to easily alternate from sitting and standing without moving the desk up and down. They simply hop off of the stool when they wish to stand.
Standing
While it’s not advisable to stand at your desk all day, intermittent periods of standing are good for circulation, alertness, back and neck health and more. Height adjustable desks allow you to alternate between sitting and standing with the touch of a button or the turn of a crank.
Standing Tall
Just as employees have different personalities, their body shapes and sizes vary as well. A tall stand up desk user will appreciate the ability to extend their desk to a position where they can stand
Perching
Perching is where standing and sitting come together to create a posture where weight is still supported but legs are extended. Stools for perching are designed to tilt so that the user can reach for things and make slight movements while at their desk.
And Many More!
Stand up desks provide a wide variety of ways to use them including Yoga ball seats, exercycles, and balance boards.
We’ve even seen employees using treadmills with their sit to stand desks.
